ACTIVITIES / ANNOUNCEMENTS

EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT
Garrett and Devon Phillips are two young men in our congregation who are working toward achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. Since only 4% of all scouts ever earn this rank, we are proud of their accomplishments and their goals. As part of the requirements of becoming an Eagle Scout, they must each be involved in a service project and we are honored that these young men want to do a project to benefit the congregation and ministries of Cornerstone.
The details of those projects are still being worked out, but currently a pavilion for group gatherings is being considered.
To help raise the funds for these projects, some fund-raising opportunities are available to the congregation. The first begins today, March 6, and runs through Sunday, April 3. During this time period, you will be able to order frozen, ready-made pies or cookie dough and have them available in time for Easter. The prices are:
Fruit Pies: $9.00 - $14.00
Cream Pies: $9.00 – $17.00
Cookie Dough Tubs: $10.00
Pre-formed Cookie Dough: $22.00 - $23.00
Each item sold will net $4.00 toward the Eagle Scout project.
Garrett and Devon are also working with the In Good Company restaurant to raise funds for this project. On Wednesday, April 20, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., 15% of all sales will be donated to the project. You can do your part by sharing this information with others, and then going out for a nice meal before or after Bible Study/Prayer on Wednesday night.
We also hope to be able to sell travel-size first aid kits in the near future. More to come on that, but in the meantime, mark your calendar for April 20 and stop and see Garrett and Devon in the foyer to sign up for a delicious pie.

LAKE ANN CAMP
The Lake Ann Spaghetti Dinner will be on April 30  from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  For a donation of $7, you will get great spaghetti, garlic toast, salad, dessert and beverage.  That night we will also be having our 2nd Annual Silent Auction where you will have the chance to pick up some wonderful items. Both of these events are fund raisers to help cover the cost of sending our kids to Lake Ann Camp this summer.  It is a time of good food and good fellowship, and it is for a very, very worthy cause.

SUNDAY SCH0OL, IT'S GOOD FOR LIFE
When Cornerstone was originally formed, we were a small group without a building, and there were a lot of discussions about what ministries we should initially focus on. We even solicited helpful suggestions from friends outside of our congregation who had been through a similar experience. One of the suggestions given to us was that we should concentrate on just having a worship service, save our money for a building, and then develop and implement other ministries as the church progressed. That was not bad advice - not at all, but it wasn’t what we wanted to do.
Instead, we chose to develop and implement ministries that we thought were essential to the spiritual health of our local body. With encouragement from Mary Dewey, one of those ministries was Christian Education (Sunday School).
It wasn’t very easy to do.  Renting space in local schools meant that we were often restricted to certain areas within the building. Therefore classes had to sometimes meet in the hallway, and one class even met in a storage closet. Teachers did not have the benefit of having their own classrooms and had to carry their own material and teaching aids with them. When prevented from using the building due to school functions, worship services had to be moved to another location and CE classes often had to be canceled.  It was not the best of circumstances for this ministry. But, we were blessed with teachers  who knew the importance  of this ministry, and so they made it work.
Today, Christian Education is still a major focus of our overall ministry plan. Understanding that what a child learns at a young age will stay with them forever (Proverbs 22:6), we want to provide our children with a Biblical foundation upon which to build their lives.
To help us to do that, each Sunday during the 9 AM hour, we offer classes for children of all age groups. We also offer classes for Junior High students (Breakfast Club), Senior High students, those with young children (Family Matters) and adults. We even have an adult class that meets at 11:15 AM.
These classes are wonderful and also provide opportunities for friendships to be made and  for fellowship to be experienced. But, of course, this can only happen with your help.
Consider your support for Sunday School. It’s good, for life!
